Though Kanjirappally St. Thomas Province was founded in 1978, only by 1988 it could get over the primary complex and build a Provincial house. The aspirants of ascetic life, at various stages of formation, were accommodated and trained there. As the provincial house did not have the inevitable serenity and solitude, for trainees, it became necessary to build a separate house for them.
On 20th January 1992, the Formation house- Nirmal Jyothi was opened and Bishop Mar Mathew Vattakkuzhy blessed it. The Heavenly patron of the convent was St. Mary, and a grotto of St. Mary was built at the entrance, blessing all who visit the place. The first Mother Superior was Rev. Sr. Mary Rose. On 31-05-1992 eleven novices were promoted to novitiate. Altogether 85 candidates have completed their studies in 18 batches hitherto.
Priests from CSSR, parish church, pastoral center, Podimattom seminary etc. come to the convent for the spiritual ministry. Rev.Fr.Emmanuel Mankamthanam has been celebrating the Holy Mass thrice a week from the inception of the convent and offering classes to the formees.
A children's forum was launched for the moral and spiritual development of the children around the convent. It functions as Alphonsa garden, Assisi Garden and Angel Garden. Children of many faiths are trained here. In order to instill values and virtues in the life of the children, classes and other programmes are offered.
